Privacy Policy
Effective Date: 19 September 2026
Therapy Atelier (“we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information with discretion and care.
1. Information We Collect
We may collect the following types of information:
- Name, email address, and phone number
- Information provided during enquiries or bookings
- Personal or health-related information shared voluntarily
- Website usage data (via cookies and analytics tools)
2. How We Use Your Information
Your information is used to:
- Provide psychotherapy and related services
- Communicate regarding appointments and enquiries
- Improve our website and client experience
- Meet legal and professional obligations
We do not sell or share personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
3. How Long We Keep Your Information
If you make an enquiry but don't go on to become a client, we keep your enquiry details for up to 12 months, then delete them — sooner if you ask us to.
If you become a client, we keep your clinical records for a minimum of 7 years after your last session with us (or until you turn 25, if therapy began while you were a minor). This is the retention period Therapy Atelier applies to client records, in keeping with common record-keeping practice for talking therapies in Australia. Records are then securely destroyed.
Where your information is stored
Our website is hosted by A2 Hosting, with servers located in the United States. Enquiry form submissions are stored in our website’s secure database and emailed to us at enquire@therapyatelier.com; they are not shared with any third-party marketing service.
4. Confidentiality
All personal information shared within therapy is treated as confidential, except where disclosure is required by law, including:
- Risk of harm to yourself or others
- Legal or court requirements
5. Data Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss, unauthorised access, or disclosure.
6. Cookies & Analytics
Our website may use cookies and analytics tools (such as Google Analytics) to understand user behaviour and improve performance.
7. Seeing Your Record, and Correcting It
You may ask to see the information held about you, or to have it corrected, by writing to enquire@therapyatelier.com. You will have an answer within thirty days. Access is given unless there is a serious risk in doing so, and if it is refused you will be told why and where to take it.
8. Health Information and Your Consent
Notes about your relationship, your history and your sessions are sensitive information. They are collected only from you and only with your consent, used only to provide and to keep a proper record of your care, and disclosed to no one else unless you ask in writing, or the law requires it, or there is a serious and imminent threat to someone's life or safety.
9. The Law This Policy Is Written Under
This practice handles personal and health information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, and under the Health Records Act 2001 (Vic) and the Health Privacy Principles. A practice of this kind is bound by both however small it is.
10. If You Are Unhappy With How Your Information Is Handled
Write to enquire@therapyatelier.com and you will have a reply within five working days. If that does not settle it, health information complaints in Victoria go to the Health Complaints Commissioner (hcc.vic.gov.au, 1300 582 113), and privacy complaints more generally to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au, 1300 363 992).
